韩城区块地下水受地形地貌、岩性和构造的控制,主要赋存于第四系底部、基岩裂隙或者岩溶裂隙之中(王双明等,2008)。按其岩性和储水空间分为3种类型(煤田地质131队,1988):第四系松散层孔隙水、石炭系—二叠系砂岩裂隙水和奥陶系灰岩岩溶裂隙水。

韩城区块主要有4套含水层即第四系松散岩、古近系—新近系砂砾石孔隙含水层,二叠系、三叠系碎屑岩裂隙含水岩组,石炭系碎屑岩夹碳酸盐岩岩溶-裂隙含水岩组,其均为弱含水层;奥陶系碳酸盐岩裂隙含水层为强含水层。

区域上总体构造特征为西高东低,黄河支流从西北向东南注入黄河。大气降水是地下水主要补给来源。含水层主要是各层组底部的砂岩,但是各层、组、段之间,一般都有砂质泥岩或泥岩、煤层及炭质泥岩等相对隔水层隔开,在自然条件下各含水层之间基本上无水力联系,加之补给条件差,对3号、5号、11号煤层无影响。但奥灰水(奥陶系石灰岩含水层)对煤层存在潜在的影响。

根据以往勘探及矿井生产资料,综合分析地层及其含水性,含水层岩性、结构及其富水性的变化,将韩城区块含水层划分为以下4组共11层(表2-2)。
