The root cause to Cui Cui's love tragedy was the tense conflicts for individual interests in Xiangxi Region(the west of Hunan Province). Everyone who were invloved in the love story of Cui Cui essentially attached more importance to his or her individual interests condering the local social reality then. As a result, Cui Cui's love was sacrificed.
