这主要跟产品的结构有关,静触点至断路器接线端距离较短,动触点焊至动触杆连着软联结经脱扣器至连线端的距离较长,传统的断路器设计总是以连着静触头的接线端作为电源端,在动、静触点之间有灭弧系统间的隔离及电源端之间的相间隔弧措施均在设计中充分考虑,当断路器的动、静触点及连接部分,因绝缘及隔离已有措施,只要灭弧系统正常熄弧,断路器也就能正常开断。
但采用下进线的断路器在短路分断时,动、静触点断开后,各相动触点连接部位均为带电体,在一段较长区域内,如轴间脱扣区有空隙,极限分断时产生的电弧因电动力及灭弧室缘故,大部分在灭弧系统中熄灭,但总有小部分的带电游离气体与邻相带电体相遇,就可能产生相间短路,破坏了断路器正常断开。

在DZ20系列塑壳断路器行业标准JB589-1997则规定:“断路器有电源端和负载端标志,分别以1、3、5表示电源端,2、4、6表示负载端。”。有些厂家在DZ20系列产品盖的模具直接刻上了“1、3、5”和“2、4、6”阿拉伯数字。也有些塑壳断路器的塑料盖上直接压制有英文“Line”和“Load”,或者压制汉字“电源端”和:“负载端”,还有用不干胶标牌,标牌上有“Line(电源端)、Load(负载端)”字样,凡有此字样均说明该断路器只能上进线。
