托福口语考试的重点在于考生证明自己能够在纯英语的语言环境中正常地交流。而“交流”二字就说明，考官不希望听你“读”或者“背”任何事先准备好的文段。
现在的独立口语题目无非是两种情况：一是题目话题过于抽象无法归类到传统“人、事、地、物”之中，也就是说以往按归类准备的“万能模版”都不再能够被使用。二是题目恰好能用到以前的模版，考生现场流畅背诵，结果会被判定为“有准备痕迹“而被压在limited(总分不会超过18分)。
因此，对于目前的考试，唯一能够得到fair及以上分数的方法就是在考场随机应变，现场发挥。
